Recipe for plaster of paris rock molds
Personally, I prefer using Hydrocal Plaster with rubber rock molds, since Plaster of Paris is quite brittle. Hydrocal plaster sets-up quite fast, so one must work quickly on small area. Hydrocal is also water proof and is excellent for the bottom of rivers and ponds. Prime the Hydrocal before applying the final coat of paint.

Plaster of Paris & Ceiling paint. I also use plater of Paris for moulds. As also mentioned, it is a bit heavy, but the price is right, especially if you buy it in the bag form. I have been using premixed drywall mud to fill in gaps and to butter the back of castings. It works well as a butter and is ok for filling small gaps.
